MB, a cold room (in our case, at least) is the space under the stairs which has been converted to storage. It is a good place to store canned goods and jars of pickles and other stuff that doesn't fit anywhere in the kitchen.
I had never heard of a cold room either! Maybe it's because we are in the deep south and rarely get a "cold" room!
