Yup, definitely going to feel this in the morning

Good workout today.

Full hour on the treadmill at 4.0 mph walk speed and 6.0 run intervals, with two minute runs every ten minutes. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it's been a very long time since this girl ran.

For four solid years I did little, if any, exercise at all. I just had no energy for it and couldn't convince myself to toss the ice pack off my head and do much of anything besides breathe for the next minute or so.

I still get three to four decent headaches a week. By decent, I mean, bad but not intolerable - 7 out of 10 as opposed to my former "12 out of 10 Get-Me-To-The-ER" status. I can live and function and hardly notice the pain until it notches up to 7. Most of the time it's at 4-ish and I just get on with life. That's what my life is going to be like. I get that. When it hits 7, I notice and wish I could magically sprinkle pixie dust on my head and make it stop. If you have magic pixie dust - please do share.

Running helps a bit. Nothing like some natural endorphins to drop a bit of a headache down a few notches. The problem is that I don't have the lung capacity I wish I had. My legs will run forever, but it would be nicer if I could, you know, breathe. Therefore, the intervals.

On the other hand, I've only been back on the treadmill for a little more than a month and I couldn't quite do the whole two minutes when I started. The walk at 4.0 I can do for the hour without any problem, but today I did 5 - FIVE - two minute run intervals with a 1.0 incline. WooHoo! Not impressive if you're young and in shape, but not bad for a 50 year old who hasn't done much of anything for four or five years.

If I do say so myself.

I think it's awesome! You said, 'I know it doesn't sounds like much..' HA! It sounds like a lot to me.

p.s. I'm 28. ;)

Congratulations on the run!

It's a shame when a 4 on the pain scale feels like a vacation from pain! Wishing you had more pain free days....

I'd love to run...but I can't seem to get my pelvic floor muscles strong enough to support my bladder (and that causes problems running, embarrasing)...nor can I coordinate the breathing part - a stitch in my side is what I get.

So, kodos to you for being able to do this and I hope it continues to help the head, the whole body.

I definitely felt Saturday's workout today. This lithe 20-something little wisp of a girl next to me ran for the entire time I was on the treadmill today and barely broke a sweat.

Meanwhile, I'm next to her doing two minute run/walk intervals and DYING - I'm pretty sure the heaving gasps for air gave me away as a true non-athlete.

Whatever... it's still feeling good to do it. My calves and thighs definitely hurt more tonight than my head does. Bonus!

You rock the catbox, my dear.

Thanks Cheese. I shouldn't be TOO proud though - I'm already trying to decide which flavour of cheesecake I will be needing for my television viewing tomorrow night.
